How to play Pixelwarfare
Pixelwarfare is a free online pixel art game inspired by r/place. Everyone paints on one giant shared canvas, one pixel at a time. Players cooperate to draw flags, logos and characters — and fight over every pixel. Every Monday the artwork is frozen, saved in the gallery, and a blank canvas begins.
1. Place pixels from your pixel bank
Sign in, tap any spot on the canvas, pick one of the 32 colours and press Place. Instead of waiting a fixed time between pixels, you have a pixel bank: it refills by one pixel every 30 seconds, so you can come back later and paint a whole shape in one go. New players start with a full bank.
2. Rush hour and the final assault
Once a day there is a rush hour: for one hour, at a different time every day, pixels recharge twice as fast. In the last two hours of every season comes the final assault, also with double recharge — the moment when the final picture is decided.
3. Levels and streaks
Every pixel you place counts towards your level, and each level makes your bank 10 pixels bigger (up to 150). Paint on consecutive days to keep a streak: your first pixel of the day gives you bonus pixels, more the longer the streak.
4. Templates: paint an image pixel by pixel
Upload any image as a template: it is converted to the palette and shown as dots over the canvas. Place it where you want, then use Next pixel to jump to the next pixel that does not match yet, with its colour already selected.
5. Factions
Team up in a faction: a tag next to your name, a private chat to plan your moves, a shared template set by the leader and a place on the leaderboard, ranked by how many pixels your faction holds on the canvas right now.
6. Every week, a new canvas
Seasons last one week and end on Monday at 00:00 UTC. Each finished canvas gets its own page with the artwork in high resolution and as a vector SVG, a timelapse of how it was painted, a battle heatmap of the most contested areas and the stats of the season. If many people play, the next canvas grows bigger.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Pixelwarfare free?
- Yes. Anyone can watch the canvas, and painting only needs a free account (Google or Discord). There is nothing to buy.
- How often can I place a pixel?
- You have a pixel bank that refills by one pixel every 30 seconds, up to 60 pixels at level 1. You can spend them one by one or paint a whole shape at once. During rush hour and the final assault the bank refills twice as fast.
- What happens every Monday?
- At 00:00 UTC the canvas is frozen, archived in the gallery as a high-resolution image and a vector SVG, and a new blank canvas begins. Every season also gets a timelapse, a battle heatmap and a vertical video.
- Can other people paint over my pixels?
- Yes — that is the war in Pixelwarfare. Join a faction, use a shared template and defend your artwork together. “My pixels” shows which of yours are still on the canvas.
- Can I use the artworks?
- You can download every finished canvas (PNG, high-resolution PNG and SVG) from its season page and share it. Each canvas is a collective work by the whole community.
- What is not allowed?
- Illegal content, other people’s personal data, bots and multiple accounts. Everything else is free expression: we do not moderate opinions. Read the full terms for details.
